Provenance
Gift of Lisa A. Hughey, the daughter of Elizabeth and Jay Benedict Hughey, once residents of El Fureidis in Montecito. In 1983 the family gifted General Vallejo’s chair to SBHM. The chair is currently on display in the Story of Santa Barbara exhibit. In 2010 the family gifted a Vallejo Family bench also on display. Lisa is confident that the chair was also part of the estate purchase made from the daughter of General Vallejo at an auction at her home in San Francisco in June 1931. One of the tapestries, (Photo #2) was a gift from Ed Garnier to Jay Benedict Hughey, the donor's father. Garnier rode with Rancheros Visitadores and owned Canet Ranch, Casitas Springs, Ventura County.
