Provenance
Gift of Dean Stewart. Donor narrative: "The poster was ubiquitous for a time, an interior decoration thumb-tacked to apartment walls all over the [UCSB] student community. It was commonly referred to as the, 'Don’t bank on America poster.' I don’t know who created the poster, undoubtedly a small group of students working together. The poster was sold for a few dollars on and off campus and it was said the money would go to a legal defense fund for students who had been arrested during various riots and demonstrations at the University of California at Santa Barbara or in the campus community of Isla Vista. A local print shop must have produced the poster, but how many were in the print run Is a mystery. I doubt that It was more than a few thousand. At this point the poster is very rare."
