Content Description
The Santa Barbara Legacy Reel Audio Tape Collection contain recordings of oral histories, radio programs, meetings, lectures, telephone conversations, ceremonies, and music perfomances of local old timers and influential people. These 184 electronic files, extracted from 98 one quarter-inch reel-to-reel magnetic tapes, represent the earliest audio recordings made by the Santa Barbara Historical Museum.

The first segment of this broadcast recording of the Trade Winds radio program on KDB-AM 1490, from 00:00:00 to 00:09:40, consists of a news update on what is now referred to as the First Taiwan Strait Crisis 1954-1955. The second segment of the broadcast, starting at 00:09:41 through 00:20:24, is a presentation on the history of California's Admission Day by Paul Sweetser. Interspersed throughout the broadcast are commercial breaks and a public service announcement on voter registration spoken by radio program host, Katherine McCloskey.
