Materials Specific Details

Part 3 of the verbatim recording of the Conference on the Utilization of Archival and Educational Resources held at Sacramento State College, in the Little Theatre, on September 17, 1966.

Track 1 contains the talk by California State Superintendent of Public Instruction, Dr. Max Rafferty, starting at 00:58:40. He is introduced by Dr. Edwin F. Klotz, consultant for the California Department of Education. At the start of Track 2 is the keynote speaker, former California State Archives Historian, Dr. J. N. Bowman. "Urquellen," German for the archival concept of "original source," is regularly invoked by the speakers.

This recording is from the First Conference on the Utilization of Archival and Educational Resources, a day-long conference held at Sacramento State College on 1966-09-17 and attended by 145 educators from around the State. The purpose of the conference, the first of its kind in California, was to explore ways to leverage archival and historical resources for use in State education. Four panel discussion sessions were featured in the day-long conference which concluded with a banquet.

The remainder of the recording covers the first observation of California Constitution Day on 1966-10-13, starting at 00:28:07 on Track 2 (see separate archival object).
