Materials Specific Details
The interviewee uses language that could be interpreted as Sinophobic and anti-Semetic, perpetuating stereotypes of historically marginalized groups. The presence of sensitive or offensive material in the Aurora Covarrubias interview is not endorsed or approved by Santa Barbara Historical Museum (SBHM). SBHM recognizes and regrets the culturally sensitive nature of this material. However, as indicated by the Society of American Archivists and the American Library Association, removing offensive material is, de facto, an alteration of the archival record and would constitute willfully destroying records to conceal facts or distort evidence. As such, the material in the archive remains as a historical record. SBHM is committed to transparency, reconciliation, and education.
