Thirty-nine (39) boxes containing 3,535 photoengraved halftone plates used in the production of the Santa Barbara News-Press. Plates are numbered and captioned on the verso tying to a handwritten index (See External Documents). The plates were manufactured from 1940-1975 from photographs ranging from the 1880s-1970s.

Gift of Walker Tompkins. Found in collections by Adela Lisanti 2025-02-12. Original accession unrecorded at time of gift, which likely occurred sometime between 1980-1988. Tompkins was a historian-journalist for the News-Press and likely recognized the historic value of the materials, rescuing them from disposal.
