Kimberly Family Photograph Collection
Content Description
Hundreds of photographs from the Kimberly family spanning the mid-1800s to the mid-1900s.
Acquisition Type
Donation
Provenance
Gift of unknown donor, but it is likely to have been Dr. John F. Merritt, a descendant on Jane Amelia Merritt Kimberly's side of the family. Merritt was a local Santa Barbara cousin of the Kimberly family. Both Dr. Merritt and Jane's daughter, Miss Jennie Kimberly, were members of the Santa Barbara Historical Society, so it is assumed they arranged for the donation of photographs with Dr. Merritt executing the donation following Jennie's death in 1964. Historian Michael Redmon confirmed (2020-07-16) this collection predated his tenure (1981- ) with the Museum.
