Biography

Michel Nellis has researched and written about several areas of Santa Barbara County, including the commercial area of Guadalupe, the rural areas of the Lompoc Valley and Foxen Canyon, Santa Barbara’s Mission Canyon District, the hedgerows of Montecito, and parts of the Carpinteria Valley. She is a member of several local historical societies and enjoys genealogy, travel adventures and supporting a girl’s school in Ghana, West Africa, through her nonprofit organization, Women to Women International.

Scope and Contents

The Santa Barbara County Historic Landmarks Surveys consists of twenty (20) three-ring binders of historical surveys of Santa Barbara County landmarks and structures of merit developed by historian Michel Nellis. The survey materials include historical context, photographs, maps, survey forms and electronic media. Also included is an interview with Montecito historian Maria Herold and a walking tour of downtown Santa Barbara stone architecture.
