Biography

Richard Woodwell "Dick" Johnston was the second owner of the first FM radio station in the tri-county region, 97.5 FM KRCW, which first signed on the air September 1, 1957. He bought the station from Cameron Warren on January 1, 1963 for the agreed upon price of $50,000, with $15,000 down. In May 1965, Johnston sold the station to News-Press Publishing Company, owner of the Santa Barbara News-Press and AM station KTMS, for $51,000. KRCW's call sign changed to KTMS-FM in July to match that of its new sister station.
