H. Travers Newton's mother, Joanna March (Bard) Newton (1917-2021), is the eldest of Richard and Joanna "Joan" (Boyd) Bard's (1890-1988) five children. Richard Bard was the son of Senator Thomas R. Bard (1841-1915) of Port Hueneme and the Bard Mansion, Berlywood. Joanna was the Bard family archivist.
